It boils down to this. Yes, I am going to object to any theory of music criticism that fails to "privilege" individual creativity, sincerity, originality, or meaning over their absence.

For me, it's not 'privilege', a word I am coming to despise for its abuse.

Value.

Any theory of music criticism that does not value individual creativity, sincerity, originality and meaning is missing the point and does not know what it's attempting to discuss.

[ETA: sorry for original first sentence; this is something I feel strongly about.]
