There's an estate auction down the block here tomorrow.

Not going to go. I occasionally go to estate auctions, sometimes because I represent the estate, at other times because the auction includes old clocks, old tube radios, ham radio equipment, and other stuff that I might care to buy and tinker with. Not this time. This guy's auction features "depression glass."

What exactly is depression glass? Wikipedia is hardly any help, having only a disambiguation page. About all I can know for any certainty about depression glass is that there is only one place to get it. You have to go to somebody's estate sale. There you can find depression glass. Those who buy it apparently keep it until it gets sold off in their estates.

This must explain the name. Depression glass is acquired as a part of a funerary ritual, by those who know their time is not long.

Even I ain't depressed enough for depression glass yet.

Well, to be overly literal, it's inexpensive glassware that was made during and after the Depression. It's actually a pretty popular collectable. Most pieces are a modest price, and there are some that go for a fair amount.
